Leon Edwards and Paddy Pimblett are among the UFC fighters in action in Manchester – plus motor racing, boxing, cricket, rugby union and much more on TNT Sports this month
By Chris Miller, Feature Writer
The UFC comes to the UK this month, with UFC 304 taking place in Manchester. You’ll get to see the best British fighters in action at the Co-op Arena including welterweight champ Leon Edwards – and with some all-British boxing matches this month too, it’s a great month for combat sports.
But there’s plenty more on TNT Sports this month of course, including two huge UK motor races in the form of the British MotoGP and the Formula E London E-Prix, the final race in the Formula E season. There’s Test and T20 cricket, baseball and basketball from the US, the continuing Aussie Rules football season and more, including the opening match of the European football season featuring Champions League winners Real Madrid. You’re never short of live sport to enjoy with TNT Sports.

MMA: UFC
The new Co-op Live arena in Manchester is the venue for UFC 304 this month, and this huge event features the biggest names in British MMA fighting. Welterweight Leon Edwards became just the second British fighter to win a UFC title when he defeated Kamaru Usman in 2022, and he’s defended it twice. Now he faces a rematch against Belal Muhammad, after their bout in 2021 ended in a no contest. Next on the bill is Tom Aspinall, who needs to defeat Curtis Blaydes to hold on to the interim heavyweight championship and get a shot at Jon Jones once the champ recovers from injury.
Also on the night’s card you’ll find two of the UK’s most high-profile mixed martial artists, Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett and “Meatball” Molly McCann. Scousers and close friends who now have their own reality show, they’ve impressed in their previous UFC appearances, both winning Performance of the Night awards. Pimblett faces Bobby Green of the US in a lightweight bout, while strawweight McCann takes on Bruna Brasil. And with plenty more action scheduled – 13 clashes in total – it’s going to be an epic night.
Ahead of that, Amanda Lemos and Virna Jandiroba headline a Fight Night in Las Vegas with a strawweight clash. In August the UFC heads to Dubai and a meeting between bantamweights Cory Sandhagen and Umar Nurmagomedov, before returning to Vegas for some heavyweight action.

Boxing
Nathan Heaney is the British middleweight champion. Brad Pauls is the English middleweight champion. When they met in March to contest Heaney’s British title, they couldn’t be separated: after 12 punishing rounds at Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena, the judges’ verdict was a draw. On 20 July, they return to the same venue to do it all over again in one of the most hotly anticipated fights of the year – and it’s live on TNT Sports.
Also on the bill that night was heavyweight Joe Joyce, who stopped Kash Ali after 10 rounds of their contest. This month he’s at the O2 Arena, London, to face one of the stalwarts of heavyweight boxing in the past couple of decades: Derek Chisora. If Joyce is going to get back on the path to a world title shot, a victory here would do him no end of good, but Chisora is always a tough customer.

Despite his burgeoning acting career, John Cena has continued to make appearances at WWE events – but it seems that’s coming to an end soon, after Cena announced he would retire in 2025. Rugby Union: Men’s Internationals
Scotland’s men’s rugby union team have improved significantly in the past couple of years, but they were stuck with a horrendously tough draw in 2023’s World Cup and didn’t make the quarter-finals. Then a bizarre 2024 Six Nations saw them beat England but lose to Italy to finish a disappointing fourth. So what’s better for team unity and continuing progress than a summer tour?
They started in North America, scoring 115 points in two games as they crushed Canada in Ottawa and the USA in Washington DC, and now they’re heading south to test themselves against Chile and Uruguay. You can see both matches live on TNT Sports.

Motorsport: MotoGP
Just one race in the coming month, but it’s a biggie for British fans. Silverstone is the venue for the British MotoGP, as it has been for most of the race’s 47-year history, and Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia comes to Northamptonshire in excellent form with an astonishing four wins in four races. The Ducati rider has been on the podium in seven of the nine Grands Prix so far this year, and if he continues like this he’ll almost certainly retain his championship title.
And yet. Bagnaia is not out of sight at the top of the table – in fact, ahead of the last race in Germany, Jorge Martín was top, but his enforced retirement from the Sachsenring race allowed Bagnaia to leapfrog him. With 10 races still to go after this, we’re looking forward to a rare old battle between these two modern greats of motorcycle racing, played out live on TNT Sports.

Motorsport: Rallying + Touring
With drivers Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä – winners of 10 of the past 11 World Rally Championships – competing only in selected races, it’s tricky to tell who’s doing well this season. Both Ogier (with co-driver Vincent Landais) and Rovanperä (with Jonne Halttunen) have won two stages each but sit outside the top three in the standings. Belgium’s Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe lead ahead of the British team of Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin, while Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja of Estonia are third.
Both Ogier and Rovanperä will be taking part in Latvia, and their rivals will know that finishing ahead of either will give them a huge boost. If they can. The action starts in Liepāja on 18 July.
In Supercars, Broc Feeney and Will Brown are still leading the way despite relative disappointment in the last race meet in Townsville: Feeney was seventh in both races, while Brown went from third on Saturday to 24th on Sunday. This allowed Cameron Waters and Matthew Payne to score a win apiece and made the title race a bit closer. Next up, it’s a night-time event in Eastern Creek, near Sydney.

Motorsport: Formula E
After nine rounds of this 16-race season, Portuguese driver António Félix da Costa had just 34 points and was well off the pace set by Pascal Wehrlein, Nick Cassidy and others. Since then, Da Costa has won an incredible four out of five races to claim 100 more points; he’s fourth in the standings with just the two final rounds to go, 33 points behind leader Cassidy with 50 still up for grabs. He couldn’t do it… could he?
If nothing else, it’s going to be a real challenge for the other drivers to hold him off. Expect a highly dramatic conclusion to what’s been another brilliant season of Formula E racing at London’s ExCeL circuit, with the full weekend of racing live on TNT Sports.

Football: UEFA Super Cup
Real Madrid conquered Europe for a frankly mind-boggling 15th time last season, demonstrating once again that they’re the supreme performers on the European stage. Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr were among the leading lights of their campaign… and since then they’ve added French superstar Kylian Mbappé to their ranks. Will he be the catalyst for even greater domestic and international domination? Or will he play like he did in Euro 2024 and unbalance the side? Europa League winners Atalanta, who denied Bayer Leverkusen their perfect season, will be the first team to find out (post-Euros fitness and form permitting, of course) in the traditional UEFA season opener.

Cricket: Men’s Test Match
After a tour of England earlier in the summer, the West Indies return home to face South Africa in two Tests and three T20 internationals, starting on 7 August at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. While they’ve not been a strong force in cricket in recent years – a recently circulated stat showed they’d lost more Tests than any other side since 2000 – the Windies’ T20 team did beat South Africa 3-0 in a pre-World Cup warm-up series earlier this summer. The Proteas should have the edge in the Tests, but it’s a different story in the white-ball game. Tune in for some fascinating match-ups (and perhaps to get a look at some actual sunshine).

Cricket: Major League Cricket
This is the second season of the US-based Major League Cricket tournament, amid a real push to kick-start the game’s popularity in America. This is clear from the number of big names taking part, including Australia’s Steve Smith and Pat Cummins, South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, West Indies’ Kieron Pollard, New Zealand’s Trent Boult and England’s Jason Roy (pictured), as well as featuring the best US talent. The idea of American cricketers is still an unfamiliar concept, but they did reach the last eight of the recent T20 World Cup; their captain Aaron Jones is playing for Seattle Orcas.
Washington Freedom, captained by Smith and featuring his Australia team-mates Glen Maxwell and Travis Head, had the best of the early stages with wins over New York, Seattle and Los Angeles but there’s plenty of cricket still to be played, with the final taking place on Sunday 28 July in Dallas.

Australian Rules Football: AFL Men’s
Sydney Swans still top the table in this season’s AFL and with an eight-point lead after 18 rounds, it’s going to be hard for anyone to knock them off over the remaining six rounds. Brisbane Lions, part of the chasing pack, will be the next to try to inflict defeat on them when they meet at the Gabba on 21 July. That’s a 4am start, so if you fancy seeing the dominant Swans in action at a more civilised time, you can watch their match at Port Adelaide on 3 August live on TNT Sports too. Baseball: Major League Baseball
The LA Dodgers were looking in good shape to win the pennant in the National League West until they hit July. Series losses against the Diamondbacks, Phillies and Tigers sent their win percentage from .611 to .577 – still healthy, but not as commanding, with the Diamondbacks and Padres hankering for that top spot. See if the Dodgers can regain their early season form when they take on the Red Sox and Giants at Dodger Stadium this month on TNT Sports.
Other playoff contenders featured in live games are the Phillies and Guardians, who meet in the evening of Sunday 28 July, and there’s plenty more MLB action on TNT Sports, including the Yankees against both the Mets and the Red Sox.
